Brand Ambassadors - VS Angels

The VS Brand Ambassadors, named 'Angels' represent the brand, through campaigns, social media and the annual fashion show, creating the 'fantasy' the brand wishes to deliver to consumers, the 14 'angels' all have a similar physique and appearance. This has caused backlash over recent years due to the lack of diversity regarding size, suggesting a lack of inclusivity and creating unrealistic body standards for women.
The Victoria's Secret website has a 'vsallaccess' - allowing consumers and fans of the brand gain a further insight into the 'angels', through the 'Meet the Angels' web page.

The 'angels' are all 5'9"ft and above and the standard body measurements to be an angel are bust:34", waist: 24" and hips: 34".  The standardised weight for the models is between 8.2 - 8.9 stone, which for their height of the models is stated as 'underweight' by the NHS. This is the reason that Victoria's Secret have faced a lot of backlash especially through the media, stating that the models are 'too skinny' and it sets 'unhealthy and unrealistic standards for women'.
When questioned about the lack of diversity within the brand's annual fashion show, Ed Razek stated "No. No, I don’t think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy, it’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is." - this emphasises the issues with the brand, the lack of understanding regarding the modern social climate within society and the impact this can have on a brand.
